Tracking someone using blackberry

To my surprise and delight, I recently found out that Valve has been releasing Linux versions of most of their SteamVR/OpenVR run-time/SDK for a while now (OpenVR just hit version 1.0.0, go get it while it’s fresh ). This is great news: it will allow me to port Vrui and all Vrui applications to the Vive headset and its tracked controllers in one fell swoop.

But before diving into developing a Lighthouse tracking driver plug-in for Vrui’s input device abstraction layer, I decided to cobble together a small testing utility to get a feel for OpenVR’s internal driver interface, and for the Lighthouse tracking system’s overall tracking quality.

The neat thing about OpenVR’s driver architecture is that it uses a well-defined — and published! — internal interface to talk to different tracking hardware , and that I can use that interface to read tracking data directly from Valve’s Lighthouse driver code without having to mess with client/server architectures. As an additional benefit, this also gives me access to all tracking data, not just the parts that Valve’s own vrserver sees fit for application consumption.

In my introduction to Exchange Server 2010 message tracking I wrote that PowerShell provides one of the most useful and powerful ways to search message tracking logs.

Although the message tracking log explorer is fine for simple searches on a single server, it doesn’t work so well when you want to do wildcard searches, search multiple servers at once, or export data for further analysis.

For those operations PowerShell is the way to go, and frankly once you’ve seen how powerful PowerShell is for message tracking log searches you’ll probably never use the explorer tool again.

The tragedy of 9/11 nudged GPS tracking into the future, particularly GPS technology in cell phones. At that time, calls from a cell phone could not be tracked, which made locating victims and rescue workers more difficult. As a result, the federal government mandated that by the end of 2005, all cell phones must include the capability of being traced within 100 meters.

Cell phone carriers responded by placing the GPS information in the phones themselves, giving the world the new capability of GPS cell phone tracking --but initially only when a 911 call was transmitted. This new capability was termed E911.

Since that time, however, the GPS chips in phones have been used to track people in all types of situations. Parents use it to track children and disobedient teens. Employers use it to monitor employees who work away from the home base. Men and women use it to follow or detect a possibly unfaithful significant other.
